Welcome, strangers!

My name is Robert Potter, and this is Utopian Tendencies. This website is a place of refuge for me while I toil away on my other project, The Hermit, a cerebral novel of an archaeologist venturing to a mysterious island to discover hidden secrets about the world and about himself.

This is also a place where you can find updates on all my creative endeavors, the occasional story or two, and my thoughts on the world and everything in it. I want this place to have an eclectic feel, encompassing the mundane to the much more esoteric. Just like any other writer, I have many thoughts in my head about all manner of things that take up too much space, and I need a place to put them.

I’m told, also as a writer, that I need to start cultivating an audience even before the book is finished, and the truth is, I’m not built for all those other social media sites. Honestly, the idea of being an influencer makes me want to vomit. That said, I recognize the world we live in and the forces at work in it.
